In 2009, Tracey Nails-Bell founded A Diamond In The Ruff – A women’s outreach and consulting company. She began her first series of workshops and groups in 2009 working with women that were transitioning from incarceration back into society. She also started working to help the homeless and mentally-ill who lived in shelters and transitional programs.
In 2010, A Diamond In The Ruff became a public corporation and received its 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service.
In 2011, A Diamond In The Ruff continued to offer its services around Alameda County. Tracey developed a series of workshops called A Heart to Heart and All About Me. These two workshop series encouraging women on how to love themselves. In addition she presented the workshop around Alameda County, they were also presented in San Francisco County Jail and Santa Rita County Jail.
2011 saw the birth of A Diamond In The Ruff Sober Living Transitional Home. This is a 18-month sober living program and transitional house in Oakland. It is our goal to help women who are at-risk from becoming homeless, victims of domestic violence, victims of human trafficking/sexual exploitation, living in recovery and/or dealing with issues related to mental illness.
